$1,500 Cruise and Scholarship Fundraising

This year’s 27th Annual Explosion of Excellence will be held in May at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.  This program honors the academic achievements of the graduating high school seniors who are in the top ten percent of their classes in all area high schools in Jackson County (including the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science).  The Explosion of Excellence is a program jointly sponsored by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street-Tourism Bureau, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and all high schools in Jackson County.  It is a fund of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce has an exciting way to be part of supporting local high school students’ future education.  As part of Explosion of Excellence Fundraiser, the McDonald’s® Descher Organization is selling raffle tickets for the opportunity to win a $1,500 Gift Card from Royal Caribbean Cruises. Individual tickets are $20, two can be purchased for $30 and five tickets can be purchased for $50.  The drawing will be held at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce on April 28th at 9:30 a.m.  All money benefits the 2017 Explosion of Excellence Scholarship Fund for the top ten percent of students in Jackson County.  Tickets can be purchased from the McDonald’s® Descher Organization or Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.

The winner of this raffle can choose a cruise to any destination. There is no expiration date of the card, and it can be applied to any booking fees and onboard fees of a Royal Caribbean Cruise Liner.  (Note: Royal Caribbean Cruise Liner does not depart from New Orleans or Mobile.)

The public is encouraged to consider a $250, $1,000 or $5,000 scholarship—all of which are 100 percent tax deductible.  These scholarships are donated by the public to encourage these students to consider employment in Jackson County when their education is finished.  The public can help honor these students by writing a check to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation/Explosion of Excellence and mailing it to “Explosion of Excellence, Post Office Box 480, Pascagoula, MS  39568-0480.”
