State certified retirement communities welcome new residents to Jackson County. These new citizens feel the benefits of living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast immediately. The massive Mississippi Sound and the scenic Pascagoula River gives all the fresh and salt water recreation opportunities needed. Each year the Chamber honors all veterans on November 11th with the Jackson County Veterans Day Program in downtown Moss Point at the Moss Point Veterans Memorial Monument. Retirees find volunteer positions with area non-profits and an abundance of churches give retirees an opportunity to find a place to call home. Memberships are available for individual members who are retired and are looking to be involved in the local community through the Chamber. Out-of-state driver’s license is valid for 60 days. Newcomers must present current license and social security card to take the written exam at the Mississippi Highway Patrol Office at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Pascagoula. The cost of the test and new license is $25. The license is valid for four years and expires on the drivers’ birthday.
Out-of-state auto tags are valid for 30 days. Newcomers from other Mississippi counties can use their current tag until its expiration date. Military personnel who are residents of other states may use their out-of-state tag, unless they establish residence in state, at which time a Mississippi tag must be purchased.
All individuals 18 years or older may register, but voting privilege does not go into effect for 30 days after registering.
Residential property tax is due by February 1 without penalty. State residents with homestead exemption are allowed a 10% assessment and an additional credit based on the value of the home.
Parental consent is required for females and males under the age of 21. A blood test must be taken and application for marriage must be made within 30 days of taking the blood test. There is a 3 day waiting period and a valid driver’s license or birth certificate is required at the time of application.
