Small Business Summer with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce

Small Business Summer with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce has many things to offer the business community.  The 9th Annual ANCHOR Awards will be held in August.  Applications for $2,500 Small Business Grants are due in September.  The Summer Learning Series will continue monthly through August with topics relevant to small business owners and employees.  These opportunities are available to members of the Chamber, and membership is available to all businesses and non-profits.

 

The next free seminar for the Summer Learning Series will be on Thursday, June 15th, at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce (720 Krebs Avenue in Pascagoula) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Attendees should bring their lunch.  This is open to Chamber members and those looking to join the Chamber.  The topic in June is “Tips for Small Business Accounting” with Jason Keenum of Jason S. Keenum, CPA.  Other dates and topics for the summer, all on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chamber, include the following: July 20th (Thursday): “Hot Topics in Employment Law” with Karl R. Steinberger and Stacie Zorn of Heidelberg, Steinberger, Colmer & Burrow, P.A.; August 17th (Thursday): “Website Development: Building, Content, and Promotion” with Andy Collins of Mississippi State University Extension Service.  Please call the Chamber at 228-762-3391 or email chamber@jcchamber.com to register.

The ANCHOR Awards was created to honor, reward and celebrate the achievements of outstanding small businesses and non-profit organizations in the community. The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber’s Small Business Issue Manager Group recognize that small businesses and non-profit organizations are the “anchors” that make the community successful.  Applications for the ANCHOR Awards are due on June 23rd and are open for the following nomination categories:

 

  • Rookie Business of the Year Award

Company has been in business more than one year but less than three years (with under 200 employees).

  • Small Business of the Year Award Category 1

Company has 50 or fewer employees

  • Small Business of the Year Award Category 2

Company has 51 to 200 employees

  • Non-Profit Organization

An entity with IRS Section ‘501(c)(3)’ status

 

The ANCHOR Awards program will be held on Wednesday, August 9th, at 7:30 a.m. at Pelican Landing Conference Center in Moss Point.  Tickets are $30 each, and Gold and Silver level sponsorships are available.  Contact Linda Johnson at JohnsonL@jcchamber.com or 228-762-3391 about sponsorship.

The $2,500 Small Business Grant application is due on September 15th.  The applications are available to businesses and non-profits that are a member of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce with under 50 employees. There grants will be awarded at the Annual Chamber Membership Meeting on October 17, 2017.  The grants can be used for the following: marketing materials (including websites), storefront and/or customer area improvements and display for merchandise.

The Chamber is here to support community and business development within Jackson County.  Opportunities such as this are available exclusively to members of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.  Small businesses make up nearly 85 percent of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce membership.
